How to program a Toshiba TV universal remote to operate a DVD player...

I was at my brother-in-law's place and we had a problem.
We couldn't find the remote for his DVD player. We had
a universal remote from Toshiba for his TV (the remote
said CT 90157 on it), but no manual for the TV.

How does one program this remote to operate the DVD player?

I tried searching on Google and found lots of lots of
vaguely worded references to it but no simple answer.

The first thing to remember is that if you know your
TV's model name/number accurately, Toshiba has all their
manuals online here:

Here is what I ended up doing. You first need a device
code the instrument that you are coding. This is a 3
digit code that has the advantage that it is a matrix
of manufacturer and instrument type (dvd player, vcr,
etc.) rather than manufacturer and exact model.

Even if you don't know the exact model # of the TV,
you can look up instructions for "similar" TV's
by using the Toshiba page that I previously mentioned.

After some trial and error, I found a manual that had
a list of device codes for Sony DVRs.

Page 27 and 28 here have the jackpot.

The codes to try are: 011, 012, 065, 066, 068, 069, 070

066 did the trick for me.

You then program the remote easily:
o Move the slider on the side to DVD
o Hold the setup button and enter the code

Hope this helps you!
